Unity Recovery was founded by Doug Paulson, a person in long-term recovery — over 29 years free from drugs and alcohol. Growing up in Morris, MN, he never imagined falling into the grip of addiction. Fortunately, people were there to help him — and that experience became his life's motivation.

Doug has spent 25 years as a licensed counselor working with both men and women across residential and outpatient settings. His career has taken him from front-line therapy to leadership, serving as Treatment Director, Program Director, working for the State of Minnesota, and partnering with Drug Court. He is passionate about providing substance use disorder treatment and education.

No two treatment plans at Unity Recovery are alike. Every plan is built around the individual's specific needs, and the involvement of supportive family members is actively encouraged throughout the process.

Unity Recovery is a comprehensive private outpatient center serving adolescents and adults in Alexandria, MN. The center specializes in substance use disorder treatment, helping clients stabilize, build relapse-prevention plans, and connect with compassionate support.

Going beyond the clinic walls

Unity Recovery is deeply invested in the broader Alexandria community's safety and wellbeing. As part of the Alexandria Safety Cabinet Initiative, Unity Recovery helped to co-sponsor six public safety cabinets across the city. Each cabinet is stocked with an AED, Narcan (naloxone), and a stop-the-bleed kit. These life-saving tools are available to anyone in the community, when every second counts.
